National Federation of University Co-operative Associations (NFUCA) has 214 university co-op members and more than 1.55 million individual members (students, graduate students, faculty members and staff). They invest by buying one share per member, use products and services of the co-op.

associations, 6 intercollege co-ops and 1 federation (Japan CO-OP Insurance (Kyosai) Consumers' Co-operative Federation)
Consumer co-operatives in Japan are established and operated based on Consumer Co-operatives Act that was enacted and enforced in 1948. Articles of Incorporation were made in accordance with the actual situation of each co-op with reference to the example of articles of incorporation designed by Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare.
* Consumer Co-operatives Act was amended drastically in May 2007 after 59 years, and the revised act was enforced since April 2008.
