New Co-op Stores

Ritsumeikan University

Biwako-Kusatsu Campus, Bakery Cafe PROGRESSO

The bakery cafe adopts an open concept in the corner of the lounge floor

In April 2019, Ritsumeikan Co-op opened a new co-op store, Bakery Cafe PROGRESSO, at the Biwako-Kusatsu Campus. It is located in the corner of the lounge floor where the university office was relocated and developed as a commons in spring 2018.

This is where the co-op store used to be. The university asked if the Ritsumeikan Co-op could manage the store since the commons would be overcrowded with students.

Although the space is not large enough for a large-scale development, we decided to adopt a bakery cafe concept because we can use the meal card system, which has been widely used in the past few years. We can also offer take-out. Since the store originally offered freshly baked bread at uniform prices, it has differentiated its products to include croissants and Danish bread.

It is a stylish store that does not look like a co-op, but as you enter the building, you can smell the sweet aroma of bread baking in the store. Our wish is that Bakery Cafe PROGRESSO can be a place that people can use for a long time.
