Delegations of NACS, NASCO and Korean University Co-ops attended the Annual General Meeting of NFUCA

Mr. William P. Simpson, the president of NACS (National Association of College Stores), Mr. Brian E. Cartier, CEO of NACS, Mr. Johnny George, a Board member of NASCO (North American Students of Cooperation) and 16 delegates from 5 Korean University Co-ops led by Mr. Chung Yoon Ching, the president of Sejong University Co-op attended the AGM and related sessions of NFUCA. At the AGM, Mr. William P. Simpson gave a congratulatory speech on behalf of all the guests from abroad.

UNICEF Study Tour in Philippines

A student executive director of NFUCA visited Philippines as a member of a study tour organized by UNICEF.

Manila, Laura Vicuna Foundation, Inc.
Mindoro Island:
Stairway Foundation, Inc.
Luzon Island:
Quezon City, KnK - Support for street children

It was an inspirational tour which showed the participants wide and deep activities of UNICEF in order to support children under different circumstances.

CNOUS/CROUS visited NFUCA and the University of Tokyo Co-op

NASCO Institute

Vice president of student committee of NFUCA was one of over 450 people who attended NASCO’s 30th annual Co-operative Education and Training Institute. Most of the participants came from student housing co-ops.
Through workshops, discussions, film screenings, and caucuses, they share knowledge and tools to engage their communities in the larger struggle for just and participatory economic models. The annual event offered over 75 courses, for example “International Students Living in Cooperatives” “For Sustainable Kitchens”, taught by talented and experienced faculty members from all over North America and beyond.

York St. John University Met Ms. Suzuko NUMATA

Prof. Dianne WILLCOCKS, Vice Chancellor of York St. John University visited Ms. Suzuko NUMATA, a survivor/spokesperson of A-bomb in Hiroshima. In 2005, “Hiroshima Peace Tree” was donated to the University by NFUCA, and it is planted in the “Peace Garden”. Although they met each other for the first time, they looked like old friends.

ICA General Assembly, ICA Global Workshop on University/Campus Co-operatives, ICA Youth Conference and other sessions

Along with ICA General Assembly and related events in Singapore, for the first time in history, ICA Global Workshop on University/Campus Co-operatives was successfully held with 76 participants from 15 countries. Given an opening address by the President of NFUCA, Kôkichi SHOJI, 3 keynote speeches and 8 country reports, participants were split into 3 groups with chosen themes to discuss and give presentations of the group discussion, followed by summarizing the days' proceedings and passing resolutions.

Waku Waku Workshop 2007

International and Japanese students got together at Waku Waku Workshop 2007 held in Sapporo City, Hokkaido. In cooperation with Hokkaido University Co-op, the secretaries of The UNIVCOOP International Students Network worked hard to make this workshop a success. Through exchanging experiences and discussions, 60 participants found clues to next activities in campus.

ICMIF 2007 Biennial Conference

In September 2007, Vice President of NFUCA, Yasuyuki HAMADA attended ICMIF 2007 Biennial Conference held in Brussels, Belgium. On this occasion, he visited The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (founded in 1834) where he studied student services and facilities.

Japan-Korea University Co-op Student Exchange Seminar 2007

The 6th seminar was held in Seoul, Korea, with 37 participants, 16 Japanese and 21 Korean. Following a welcome ceremony and dinner on arrival night, the programs started next day: lively discussed sessions, study visits to University Co-ops in Seoul, and day-trips to places of historical, cultural and environmental interest. The 7th seminar (2008) is scheduled to be held in Japan.

ECStA-DSW Conference

As part of investigation into circumstances and challenges facing student support services in higher education abroad, the delegation headed by the president attended the conference and gave a presentation on Japanese case.

York St. John University Visited Kyoto

Students of York St. John University where 5 saplings of “Hiroshima Peace Tree” were donated from NFUCA, visited Kyoto and had an opportunity to meet co-op students in the region.

CAMEX 2007

CAMEX has a long history of being the collegiate retailing industry's meeting place. For more than 80 years, volunteers and staff of the NACS have worked together to create and grow this premier industry event. Today CAMEX is the industry's largest trade show and educational event attracting attendees from more than 1,100 college stores and more than 700 exhibiting companies.

In 2007, NFUCA visited CAMEX, held in Orlando, Florida.
