The 8th ICA-AP (International Co-operative Alliance - Asia & the Pacific) Regional General Assembly and ICA Regional Workshop on University/Campus Co-operatives were held in Hanoi, Vietnam.
At the Regional General Assembly, “Constitution of the ICA Committee on University/Campus Co-operatives for Asia and the Pacific” was approved. That is to say that the Consumer Sub-Committee on University/College Co-operatives was upgraded to a full-fledged committee of ICA-AP.

Delegation of Kyung Hee University Cooperative from Korea consisting of 4 officers, 1 student and 1 professor visited university, citizen and health co-operatives in Kobe and Osaka area. They called on 3 university co-operatives in Kobe, Kobe University, Konan University and Kwansei Gakuin University and Hannan University in Osaka. Co-op Kobe showed them the museum, facilities for training, a centre for commodity inspection and a food production factory utilizing biomass for power generation as well as a shopping centre.

A vice chair of Student Committee of NFUCA visited Nepal as a member of a study tour organized by UNICEF. It was an inspirational tour which showed the participants wide and deep activities of UNICEF in order to support children under different circumstances.

The annual event of NASCO (North American Students of Cooperation) was held in Ann Arbor, MI, USA. The main theme this year was “grassroots run deep: cooperating in the struggle for land rights”. A student Executive Director participated in some courses such as “Developing New Cooperatives” “Co-op and Community-Based Careers” “The Forgotten History of Student Co-ops”.

NFUCA with a representative of JASSO attended for the first time the APSSA (Asia Pacific Student Service Association) International Conference held in Wuhan, China. Prof. Inoue, Former Board member of NFUCA, delivered a country report with an overview of higher education, student support in higher education and the student support of university co-operatives in Japan.
After the conference, the delegates visited Fudan University in Shanghai to find recent information of the university with which NFUCA has a history of exchange.

Representatives of Korean and Japanese managers joined the round table for the first time in our history of exchange, held in Gwangju, Korea. Before and after the sessions, they visited 6 university co-operatives in Seoul, Gwangju, Daegu and Busan to study the present situations of university co-operatives in Korea.

Waku Waku Workshop 2008, co-organized by International Solidarity Committee and the UNIVCOOP International Students Network of NFUCA was held in Osaka. Through exchanging experiences and discussions, 74 participants found some ideas for next activities in campus.

The 7th seminar was held in Tokyo, with 55 participants, 33 Japanese and 22 Korean student leaders of university co-operatives. Following a welcome ceremony and dinner on arrival night, the programs started next day: lively discussed sessions and study visits to university co-operatives in Tokyo and Saitama. The 8th seminar (2009) is scheduled to be held in Korea.

NFUCA visited University of Malaya Co-operative, National Co-operative Organization of Malaysia (ANGKASA) and Co-operative College of Malaysia.

The delegation of NFUCA visited some campus co-operatives in Indonesia on the way to and from the venue of the Seminar. The co-operatives visited were Student Co-operative of Gadjah Mada University, The University Co-operative of Jenderal Soedirman University and Student Co-operative of the State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
The village visited is located in Bantul, Central Java. The mosque rebuilt is a symbol of rebirth of the area.

The University Co-operative of Jenderal Soedirman (KOPKUN), the Indonesian Institute of Cooperative Development Study (LSP21) and the Indonesian Youth Co-operative (KOPINDO) held Seminar cum Workshop on University Co-operative in Purwokerto, Central Java, Indonesia. The delegation of NFUCA consisting of the President, General Director & CEO, students and staff participated and gave an overview of university co-operatives in Japan.

Long-awaited saplings of “Hiroshima Peace Tree” were donated to Mahajana First Grade College in Mysore, India. The Principal reported that The Peace Tree created a sensation in the city.

16 delegates from 11 primary co-ops and the Univcoop Special Committee from Korea visited Keio Co-op, The University of Tokyo Co-op, Saitama University Co-op and Saitama Co-op. They called on not only retail sections but day-care center of Saitama Co-op and were impressed.

NFUCA visited some social co-operatives, their federations and a professor in Rome, Trento and Bologna to study “social economy” in Italy.

The delegation of NFUCA headed by General Director & CEO participated NACS LSG Annual Meeting 2008 held in Savannah, GA, U.S.A. and gave a presentation on customer service in the session entitled “New Business Opportunities”. It featured Japanese tradition in customer service and the participation of students in business and activities of university co-operatives in Japan.

NFUCA attended, for the first time, the Annual Conference of NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators) held in Boston, MA, U.S.A. and, as the first Japanese delegation, International Symposium organized by NASPA International Education Knowledge Community. NASPA is the foremost professional association for student affairs administrators, faculty, and graduate and undergraduate students with over 11,000 members at 1,400 campuses, and representing 29 countries. NFUCA gave a brief self-introduction during lunch session.

Minister of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development Malaysia visited the University of Tokyo Co-op in Komaba campus. First, he and his staff of the ministry paid a courtesy visit to Dean of Komaba campus. After friendly conversations, they moved to Komaba Communication Plazas where the delegation including key figures of Malaysian co-operatives was given a presentation of overview of the Co-op by General Manager & CEO and introduced to co-op facilities.
