Student Support and Student Involvement in the Establishment of Co-operative
On April 26-29, 2011, NFUCA attended the 16th PAASA Annual National Convention in Davao City, southern Philippines. PAASA, which stands for Philippine Association of Administrators of Student Affairs, provides support for students at institutions of higher education. Around 150 participants and 10 guest participants from other countries gathered at the national convention.
Student affairs staff in the Philippines met together to discuss the trends in higher education in the Philippines, changes in circumstances surrounding universities, measures taken and challenges faced by student affairs administrators. They also exchanged reports and opinions on prospects for further developing student affairs.
In the working session, the Co-Secretary of ICA Committee on University/Campus Co-operatives for Asia and the Pacific reported on the status of university co-operatives in Asia and presented a model of campus co-operative that can contribute to student support. The participants actively discussed and shared experiences on co-op establishment process, benefits and other issues. The importance of establishment of student co-operative through the perspective of student support was highlighted at the session.
