The University of Tokyo Co-op Welcomes Delegates from Lingnan University

On Saturday, June 22, 2024, the National Federation of University Co-operative Associations (NFUCA) had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from Centre for Cultural Research and Development, Lingnan University, Hong Kong. Prof. Pun Ngai, accompanied by a staff member and a student, had the opportunity to explore the University of Tokyo Co-op, Hongo Campus. This visit to the University Co-op is part of Lingnan University's research on different cooperatives in Japan.

During the first session, Mr. Takayuki Shimura, the Vice Manager, NFUCA Office of the Board, explained NFUCA's business activities and student participation, including the Student Committee. Afterwards, Mr. Shogo Yano, the Assistant to the Executive Director of the University of Tokyo Co-op, delivered an insightful presentation, shedding light on the operations and initiatives of the University Co-op. Through this session, participants exchanged opinions on the various student support programs provided by the University Co-op and the involvement of its members, primarily students, in managing these programs.

Following the presentation, the group toured the bookstore, general store, and cafeteria, where they also enjoyed a meal together.

The visiting group expressed interest in learning more about the Japanese university co-ops in the future, and we agreed to discuss opportunities for future exchanges.
